Althorp Estate is a historic country estate located in Northamptonshire. The 13,000-acre estate has been the ancestral home of the Spencer family for over 500 years. Althorp is most famous as the childhood home of Diana, Princess of Wales. The grand Georgian mansion at Althorp was originally built in the 16th century, but underwent significant renovations in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is now open to the public and visitors can tour its impressive art collection, antique furnishings, and historic interiors. In addition to its cultural and historical significance, Althorp Estate is a working agricultural estate and is home to a number of rare and endangered species of wildlife. Visitors can enjoy walks in the park, explore the walled garden, and take in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Althorp is set in 450 acres of parkland. Diana was laid to rest on an island in the middle of a lake in the grounds. Visitors can walk to the lake to view the island, and also see the Diana memorial at the water's edge.
