Littlecote House Hotel, Hungerford - 5 days TURKEY & TINSEL With festive fun - an early Christmas and New Year rolled into one

Littlecote House is a Warner Hotel for over 21s situated in Berkshire. A fascinating tudor Manor on a 113 acre Berkshire estate. Soak up the history and character of this magnificent mansion with stories spanning thousands of years. In its various guises Littlecote House has hosted occupying Romans and a Civil War army – and it’s where Henry VIII met Jane Seymour, his third Queen. It’s home to the last remaining Cromwellian Chapel in a private house, the rooms where the D-Day landings were planned, and a beautiful Roman mosaic. Littlecote’s the perfect destination to explore or relax, whether you take a scenic drive to nearby Marlborough, enjoy a game of tennis or unwind with a book in the cosy library.

Day 1 – Depart from Spalding at 8am, with a short convenience stop followed by a longer stop in Bampton. The village of Bampton was a major late Anglo-Saxon Centre: the focus of a royal manor, and site of a 'minster' church. At the time of the Norman Conquest, Bampton was a large settlement and, in the Domesday Book of 1086, there is already mention of a market in Bampton. The town enjoyed amazing prosperity in the early Middle Ages, and much of its wealth was based on wool though later on there was also textile and leather working. Bampton may seem oddly familiar to many first time visitors – it was used for filming the village scenes in the popular TV drama ‘Downton Abbey’: the old Grammar School Building which houses Bampton Community Archive, with its impressive collection of old photographs of Bampton and its people, served as the 'Downton' hospital and St Mary’s Church, whose spire provides one of the landmarks of the upper Thames Valley, also featured prominently. Bampton is lively village with a good array of amenities including West Ox Arts Gallery, which is housed on the first floor of the town hall right in the centre of the village and has a rolling programme of exhibitions of various sculpture forms. Arriving at the hotel about 4pm

Day 2 – Depart the hotel at 10am to Bath. Every year at Christmas, Bath sparkles with glittering lights and the streets are filled with festive spirits. Soak up the festive atmosphere with Christmas lights, fantastic food and independent shopping. From magical city illuminations to special artisan treats and a fantastic programme of festive events, the city has united across arts and culture, retail and hospitality, to allow you to discover the magic of Bath this Christmas. From hunting for unique gifts at Bath Christmas Market to exploring the Christmas lights that illuminate the city, plus many more festive events, there are so many ways to enjoy Bath at Christmas this year. Bath Christmas Market will return with twinkling chalets spread out across Bath’s picturesque Georgian streets, it's the perfect place to do a spot of Christmas shopping. From unique homeware to personalized presents, Christmas decorations, handcrafted jewellery and more, you’re guaranteed to find something special for your loved ones. You'll find even more gifts crafted by talented independent makers and artisans at the BRLSI's annual Christmas Makers Market, with stalls changing every few days to ensure that there's something new to discover each time you visit. However, one fixture that will remain at the market throughout is the brand new 'Bauble Bar' from The Love Makers Craft Cafe, where you'll have a chance to get stuck into a range of Christmas crafts, and potentially even fashion your own presents!  Shires Yard offers a range of independent and flagship shops. Head to Southgate for high street brands, or to the quirky side streets and 19th century shopping arcade The Corridor for even more shopping options. The top of town along Walcot Street and Bartlett Street is the place to go for artisan goods and antiques. Take home a locally-made gift from the Bath Aqua Glass shop, or blow your own bauble with them at Bath Christmas Market! You can also find beautiful handmade pieces at Icarus Jewellery on Pulteney Bridge, or shop for local food and drink at the family-run Hartley Farm Shop. Bath's unique venues and iconic buildings play host to a multitude of festive events. Don't miss The Roman Baths during your trip to Bath this Christmas. Explore ancient waters and unique treasures, and find Roman-inspired gifts in the museum shop.

Day 3 – Depart the hotel at 10am to Blenheim Palace. Discover the magic of Christmas at Blenheim Palace, listed as one of the best in the UK. You will have an afternoon entry time for the palace, the theme for 2026 is still to be announced. As well as the palace, The Winston Churchill exhibition and The Stables exhibition will also be open for you to enjoy along with the palace shop and café.

Day 4 – Free time at the hotel to enjoy all the activities and facilities that Warner Hotels offer.

Day 5 – Depart from the hotel at 10am, with a stop in Burford. Burford’s famous High Street sweeps downhill towards the River Windrush, its three-arched medieval bridge and its impressive church, both sides of the street flanked by an unbroken line of ancient houses and shops. Little has changed over the centuries, Burford is popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping, especially antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. Here you can stay in a hotel frequented by King Charles and Nell Gwynn, dine where Nelson dined or visit England’s oldest pharmacy, a chemist since 1734. Halfway down the hill, the 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful, local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. There are wonderful alleyways and side streets just waiting to be explored and next to a set of medieval almshouses stands St John’s church, a permanent memorial to Burford’s medieval wealth. This fine church is a real gem with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families including one to Henry VIII’s barber surgeon, which includes one of the earliest depictions of native Americans and the ostentatious Tanfield tomb. On the baptismal font is the scratched name of Anthony Sedley, one of the Levellers, mutinous rebels in Cromwell’s army, who were besieged in the church in 1649 and had to watch from the roof as their ringleaders were executed in the churchyard. There will be another convenience stop before arriving back in Spalding about 5.30pm
