Day 1 – Depart from Spalding at 8am, with a short convenience stop before making our way to the ferry. Arriving at our hotel by 4pm
Day 2 – Depart the hotel at 10am to Shanklin. There are few locations on the Isle of Wight which boast such a tranquil and picturesque location. The stunning tree-lined Shanklin Chine cuts its way from Shanklin Old Village to the sandy beach and Esplanade far below. The attraction also features a special monument to 40 Royal Marine Commando who trained in the Chine in preparation for the Dieppe landings in World War 2. Visitors can also learn about the role of the chine in the famous PLUTO (Pipeline Under The Ocean) which carried petrol to the Allied troops in France during the D-Day landings. Stroll along the seafront – Shanklin lost its pier in the 1987 hurricane but there is a plaque remembering it and much more on the Esplanade. Be sure to check out the Old Village. The thatched buildings of the Old Village are always popular with tourists, who browse the gift shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. After our visit to Shanklin we will make our way to Godshill. Number one on a list of things to do on a visit to Godshill has to be a trip to the Model Village Godshill. This lovely attraction is centered around miniature recreations of Godshill (of course) and Shanklin Old Village. The level of detail is incredible and there are lots of quirks to spot as you go round the attraction. The model village is linked to the Royal Horticultural Society thanks to its beautiful gardens setting. All Saints’ Church in Church Hill is a beacon that is visible from miles around. This 14th century church has an unusual layout, with a double nave and chancel of roughly equal width, small transepts, porch and northwest tower, mostly in sandstone. There is also a fascinating series of tombs of notable people from the area. Godshill’s shops prove a popular draw for visitors. The Old Smithy next to the village car park and some interesting outlets up the main road make for a great bit of browsing and purchasing.
Day 3 – Depart the hotel at 10am to Osborne House. borne House was Queen Victoria’s family seaside home in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. After first visiting Osborne, Queen Victoria wrote: 'It is impossible to imagine a prettier spot'. From the historic house to the extensive grounds and private beach there is so much to see and do at Osborne, it is the perfect day out for everyone. Step inside Osborne House and explore the opulent state rooms and art collections. Marvel at the exotic Indian-inspired design of the Durbar Room and gain a glimpse into the private lives of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as you discover their family rooms. Explore the Queen's bedroom, nursery rooms and royal bathrooms. Discover the lives of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's nine children at Swiss Cottage. This is where the royal children played, gardened, cooked and collected unusual objects. Wander in between the children's vegetable plots outside of the cottage and discover the outside play area. There are extensive grounds at Osborne to enjoy with stunning views across the Solent. Wander through the Victorian walled garden that offers a place to relax and discover the seasonal colour throughout the year and exotic plants in the hothouses. Queen Victoria regularly bathed at her private beach at Osborne, and this is where the royal children learnt to swim. Explore the beach whether it's a walk along the sandy and shingle shore or a swim in the sea. Relax on the beach with an ice cream or hot drink from the cafe.
Day 4 – Depart from the hotel at 10am the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Ride the Steam Train. Settle back in our immaculately restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages as our majestic steam engines take you on a ten-mile round trip through some of the Island’s stunning countryside. Train Story Discovery Centre - Experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of over 150 years of railway history. Inside, you will find displays of our Victorian and Edwardian carriages alongside a collection of our rare rolling stock, all preserved undercover and protected from the elements, allowing us more time to spend restoring other historic vehicles. Find out more about the Museum - See up-close a whole host of items from the Railway’s history including nameplates and maker’s plates from some of the earliest locomotives to run on the Island.
Day 5 – Depart from the hotel at 10am, to the ferry. There will be a convenience stop, arriving back in Spalding about 5pm
