Grand Hotel Monopole has been a landmark in Valkenburg aan de Geul for more than 100 years. The characteristic hotel, built in 1906 by Arie Hartog, stands out for its neo-classical architecture and stately appearance. Today, Grand Hotel Monopole combines historical charm with modern comfort, in a central location on the edge of the centre of Valkenburg. Just a five minute walk to the town centre and a 10 minute walk to the Municipal Caves.

Day 1 – Depart from Spalding at 7am, with appropriate convenience stops, crossing the English Channel by ferry, arriving at our hotel about 7pm
 
Day 2 – We will enter the Municipal Caves at 10.30am as a group. Once inside you will be free to go at your own pace and leave when you are ready. The rest of the day will be free time in Valkenburg. In the festively lit marlstone corridors of the Municipal Cave (Gemeentegrot) in Valkenburg, you will find the largest underground Christmas market in Europe. At Christmas time the endless maze has been transformed into an extensive Christmas market for the real Christmas lover! In Valkenburg Christmas doesn’t last two, but 52 days! Christmas Town Valkenburg brings light in the darkest time of the year! Visit the Christmas town for the ultimate Christmas feeling and enjoy the atmosphere, the coziness and all the wonderful things that the Christmas destination of the Netherlands has to offer. In Valkenburg you will find fun stalls and boutiques filled with the cutest Christmas gifts. Come Christmas shopping and stroll through the beautifully lit streets with a huge selection of shops and restaurants.

Day 3 – Departing the hotel at 10am we take a short journey over the border to Aachen in Gemany. For over 50 years, the old town around the cathedral and town hall has been transformed into a festive Christmas village. Where Charlemagne once resided, visitors from all over the world now enjoy the scent of gingerbread, mulled wine, and sparkling lights. Experience the unique charm of Aachen during the most wonderful time of the year! We will be back in Valkenburg in time for something to eat before the Landal Christmas Parade at 7.30pm. During Christmas Town Valkenburg, a magical parade passes regularly through the old town. The historic city centre forms a fantastic backdrop against the illuminated procession of abundantly decorated floats and groups of dancers in glamorous costumes.

Day 4 – Depart from the hotel at 9am to make our way back to Spalding via the English Channel ferry, arriving back in Spalding about 7pm

A non-refundable deposit of £85 per person is required to reserve a place; the remaining balance will be due by Thursday 16th September 2027. The remaining balance may be paid in instalments if you wish but must be paid in full by the due date.

This price will include bed, continental breakfast, services charges, city taxes, ferry, coach travel and entry to the Municipal Caves on Valkenburg. Any special requests must be notified on the booking form when making your booking.

We are now offering a taxi service from our old pick up point in Long Sutton, outside the Baptist Church in West Street, to Spalding Bus Station for all our 2027 holidays. The cost of this will be an extra £16 per person for the return journey. The taxi will depart from Long Sutton 50 minutes before the Spalding departure time.
